Dot & Corner Patterns
QR codes are made of small squares (modules) arranged in a grid. You can change how those modules look to match your brand style—from sharp geometric patterns to smooth, rounded designs.
Dot Styles
Section titled “Dot Styles”The dot pattern controls how the main QR code data appears. Choose from six distinct styles:
- Square - The classic QR look. Sharp 90° corners, maximum contrast.
- Dots - Circles instead of squares. Softer, more approachable feel.
- Rounded - Squares with slightly rounded corners. A balanced middle ground.
- Extra Rounded - Heavily rounded, almost like a retro arcade aesthetic.
- Classy - Geometric pattern with alternating sizes and orientations.
- Classy Rounded - Same as Classy, but with rounded edges for a softer look.
To change the dot style:
- Open the Customize panel (right-side tabs).
- Click the Style tab (the pattern icon).
- Select a dot style from the previews.
- Watch the QR code update in real-time.
Best for scannability: Square and Dots are the most reliable. Rounded and Extra Rounded work well but test on older phones. Classy patterns are artistic but may reduce scan speed on some devices.
Corner Styles
Section titled “Corner Styles”The three corner squares (position markers) help phones recognize and orient the QR code. Style these independently:
- Corner Square Type: The large corner boxes.
- Square, Rounded, Extra Rounded versions available.
- Corner Dot Type: The small dots inside the corner squares.
- Square, Dots, Rounded, Extra Rounded options.
These can be different from your main dot style, giving you creative freedom. For example:
- Main dots: Dots (circles)
- Corner squares: Rounded
- Corner dots: Extra Rounded
Corner Softness (Roundness Slider)
Section titled “Corner Softness (Roundness Slider)”Fine-tune how rounded the corners are with the Roundness slider (0–100%):
- 0%: Fully sharp corners (geometric).
- 50%: Balanced roundness.
- 100%: Maximum curvature (looks almost organic).
This applies globally to both dot patterns and corner styles, so you can dial in exactly the look you want without picking a predefined style.
Combining Patterns
Section titled “Combining Patterns”Your dot style, corner square style, and corner dot style can all be different. Experiment:
Minimalist brand:
- Dots: Dots (circles)
- Corner squares: Rounded
- Corner dots: Dots
- Roundness: 40%
Bold statement:
- Dots: Classy Rounded
- Corner squares: Rounded
- Corner dots: Extra Rounded
- Roundness: 80%
Testing Scannability
Section titled “Testing Scannability”After choosing your pattern:
- Download the QR code (PNG or SVG).
- Test on 2–3 phones with different camera apps.
- Check at different sizes (small stickers, large posters).
- Scan from various distances and angles.
If a pattern consistently fails to scan, return to Square or Dots—they’re the most universally reliable.
Your pattern choices are saved with your QR code. When you apply a brand template or export the style, all pattern settings travel with it.
